Aesthetic movement

The aesthetic movement became really popular in Britain, in the late 19th century. It was about art for beauty and art for art rather than art for practical reasons. Japanese art and culture was a huge inspiration for this movement.

The foundation Morris and co. In 1862, started by the artist William Morris initiated the revolution of design. The Liberty store in London commercialised the ideals of the movement. analyse pieces of work, colour texture repeat pattern distinct.

This piece of work by William Morris reminds me of the baroque interiors and designs due to the nature of the repetition and leaf designs. The colour is that of it’s time but not relevant to my work and the colours I want to focus on such as gold and jewel tones.
